DEMATERIALIZATION OF THE ATA CARNET

| Theme:

As of June 1, 2026, the ATA carnet will gradually give way to the e-ATA carnet in several countries. This evolution simplifies customs formalities related to the temporary movement of goods. Faster, more secure, and more fluid, this new digital format accompanies the digital transformation of international trade.

GRADUAL DEPLOYMENT OF THE E-ATA CARNET

For many years, the ATA carnet (Admission Temporaire/Temporary Admission) has allowed the temporary importation of goods into more than 70 countries without paying import duties or taxes. It is mainly used for commercial samples, professional equipment, or goods intended for trade shows and exhibitions.

With the launch of the e-ATA carnet, paper procedures are evolving toward an entirely digital format. Customs data can now be transmitted electronically and checked more quickly by the competent authorities. This dematerialization aims to reduce the risk of errors, accelerate customs clearance, and strengthen the traceability of operations.

The use of paper media will still be required in parallel for certain destinations. The transition phase will extend until the end of June 2027.

ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR INTERNATIONAL FLOWS

In France, ATA carnets are issued by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI), as are e-ATA carnets. As a registered customs representative, our Balguerie Group experts support and advise you on regulatory compliance as well as customs formalities related to temporary export and re-import operations.

The ATA carnet remains an essential tool today for many sectors: industry, events, aeronautics, luxury, or even audiovisual. It facilitates the temporary movement of goods while securing international customs operations. The entry into force of the electronic format thus responds to the growing needs for agility and speed in international logistics.
