HEAT-SENSITIVE PRODUCTS: WHEN AIR TRANSPORT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
Fast, precise and secure, air freight is the ideal solution for heat-sensitive goods. From foodstuffs to chemicals, discover how this customized logistics solution guarantees the quality and conformity of your shipments.
GOODS THAT DEMAND PRECISION AND RESPONSIVENESS
Air freight is an essential ally if you’re in a hurry and looking for reliable delivery of your goods. Whether you need to avoid a stock shortage, attend an international trade show, or meet other urgent logistical challenges, air freight offers you a high-performance, efficient solution.
But where it really makes a difference is in the transport of refrigerated products. Like vaccines, bottles of wine or a shipment of exotic fruit, these goods are highly sensitive to temperature variations, and require impeccable logistics. With rapid routing and rigorous management of temperature conditions, air transport ensures that every product arrives safely, without compromising on quality.
LOGISTICS TAILORED TO EVERY NEED
Three main temperature categories are commonly required:
- Frozen (-18°C): perfect for frozen foods and specific chemicals;
- Refrigerated (+2°C to +8°C): ideal for fresh foods (vegetables, fruit, meat, pastries, etc.) and pharmaceutical products;
- Controlled (+15°C to +25°C): suitable for wines, certain medicines and some resinous products.
And to meet these requirements, several technical solutions exist, depending on the nature of the goods and their weight. Aircraft holds can be stored at +15°C/+25°C or +2°C/+8°C (with or without isothermal packaging and cooling gel packs). Below this level, refrigerated packaging with dry ice is required (-18°C), or an Envirotainer container. The Envirotainer works like a self-contained refrigerator, powered by battery or electrical connection. It guarantees a constant temperature throughout the journey.
Recorders frequently accompany shipments to monitor any temperature variations experienced by products, also known as thermal excursions, and ensure impeccable traceability.
A STRICT REGULATORY FRAMEWORK
Refrigerated air transport is governed by rigorous international standards, guaranteeing the quality and safety of goods. It is also governed by IATA regulations governing the use of dry ice (classified as a dangerous good) and by GDP (Good Distribution Practices) specific to pharmaceutical products.
Air freight is therefore the ideal solution for transporting your heat-sensitive goods, but it requires meticulous preparation. With its expertise, Balguerie Group can advise you and anticipate every step to ensure fast, reliable and compliant delivery.
