ROISSY CHARLES DE GAULLE: WHAT WILL TOMORROW’S AIRPORT BE LIKE?

| Theme:

With 200,000 passengers every day and 90,000 employees, Roissy Charles De Gaulle (CDG) airport is France’s leading airport and Europe’s second largest hub. It is a real strategic pillar of France’s reputation and attractiveness. That’s why the ADP Group wants to develop the airport and its infrastructure by launching the Roissy Charles de Gaulle of tomorrow. The direction of this project revolves around five major axes:

  • A major multimodal station connected to the entire region
  • Phased and modular development
  • Optimising freight activities
  • Sustainable real estate for quality of life and employment
  • A low-carbon energy hub

OPTIMISING FREIGHT ACTIVITIES

The third major thrust of this major project is freight, which accounts for a large part of the airport’s activity, with 17,000 cargo experts and almost 2 million tonnes of goods transported in 2024. This figure could double by 2050. This optimisation has two objectives:

  • Redeveloping the cargo area to optimise the use of existing space, in particular by vertical development of new business parks or freight stations
  • Mechanising and automating freight handling to improve annual handling capacity

These refurbishments will optimise the handling of goods and enable us to meet the increased volumes for which all our air freight experts are fully committed.

OBJECTIVE: CARBON NEUTRALITY

In order to meet the sector’s carbon-neutral objectives by 2050, with a first milestone for airport emissions in 2035 (ADP net internal zero emissions), low-carbon energy needs are essential. This will require the development of production and distribution capacities for renewable energies such as geothermal and photovoltaic power, which should enable us to strengthen the electricity networks and supply heat production.

The deployment of recharging stations is just as essential, as is increasing the supply of sustainable aviation fuel and hydrogen, for which space has been set aside to accommodate liquefaction and storage plants.
