Since August 20, 2024, new security rules have been imposed by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) for air freight bound for or transiting the United States. Canada and Australia followed suit a few days later. These new measures aim to reinforce transport security by requiring greater traceability of commercial relations between shippers and forwarders. These changes could have a direct impact on your operations. For all shipments to these countries, it is now mandatory to provide solid evidence of an \u201cEBR\u201d (Established Business Relationship) between the forwarder and the shipper. This evidence, in addition to the ETA, may include a signed contract, payment information, order history or a commercial registration certificate for new customers. Without these documents, the shipment will be refused by airlines from November 12, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has extended the deadline for compliance to November 11, 2024. After this date, any shipment not complying with the new requirements will be automatically rejected. A list of freight descriptions is available on their website to help companies prepare. Since October 2, a test has also been available to check whether the descriptions of goods sent are detailed enough or not. CBP has also set up a messaging system to alert companies if their cargo descriptions are too vague and do not meet the standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These new rules are designed to make international shipments more secure and to provide a better framework for commercial relations. It is essential for the companies concerned to ensure that they comply with these rules, or risk having their shipments refused from November onwards.
