While some companies are still using the <strong>Suez Canal<\/strong> for some of their ships, most shipowners have suspended all transit via this route, preferring instead to pass through the <strong>Cape of Good Hope<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS DIVERSION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Changing ships&#8217; course extends <strong>transit times<\/strong> by around ten days, leading to an <strong>equipment shortage<\/strong> that is already being felt in Asia, particularly in China and India, where the <strong>main international ports<\/strong> are affected. In China, the port of Ningbo is saturated with goods awaiting loading, due to a lack of empty containers to return and vessels to ship the goods. In India, the country&#8217;s main container ports, Nhava Sheva and Mundra, are affected by this equipment shortage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to this shortage of equipment, the arrival and departure dates of ships in <strong>European ports<\/strong> are necessarily shifted, and it is to be feared that <strong>port congestion<\/strong> will further lengthen transit times in the weeks to come.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also note that some European factories are forced to <strong>slow down their activities<\/strong> because the required parts from Asia have not yet been delivered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other consequences: <strong>higher freight rates<\/strong> with the application of various surcharges and increased transit costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WHAT ARE THE SOLUTIONS ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Options such as <strong>rail<\/strong>, <strong>air or multimodal<\/strong> air-sea transport are all possible.
